A Day in the Life at Hattie & George
Have you ever wondered what it is like to work every day making our amazing collars, leads and dog bow ties for your beautiful dogs? Well, we thought we would give you a sneaky peek into the working day of one of our super talented team - Dawn. Dawn starts her day at 6.00am, accompanied by her four-legged co-workers Holly & Missy, her day begins with a cup of tea (it has to be Yorkshire Tea!!!), and for Holly and Missy, it’s breakfast time. Together they collate the orders that have arrived overnight, Holly and Missy take great interest into what their four-legged friends are considering desirable. The “magic” then begins! The fabric for each order is gathered, along with the leather selected and the colour-way for the buckle or clasp. Then together, they choose the sewing thread that blends perfectly. After this, a treat is required – well for Holly and Missy anyway. This part of the process occurs regularly throughout the day – always healthy and good for their teeth! The materials are cut to the pattern suitable for the size ordered. We cut the fabric on the bias which is a posh pooch term for cutting the fabric diagonally. Cutting this way, ensures that the full effect of the tweed can be seen on the finished item. The leather is cut so that the best of the grain is visible. After Dawn (with Holly and Missy’s supervision) has finished cutting the dog collar, lead or bow tie, she carefully stitches everything together. Once Holly & Missy have checked everything and approved the look and quality, it is passed to a co-worker to double check it – to ensure perfection every time! When all boxes are ticked and tails are wagging, it is time for the kettle to go on again and yes, you guessed it, the treat jar is opened! Each item is then lovingly packaged, in tissue paper in a branded box, so that when it is opened the presentation matches the quality of their creation. Some four-legged customers enjoy opening the box themselves. By midday it is time for Holly and Missy to have a well-deserved walk and some time out. Naturally, they model Hattie & George collars, leads and bow ties on all outings. Being a stickler for detail, before leaving for home in the afternoon, Dawn and her fellow team members check for orders and then tidy and clean the workshop, ready for the following day!! We wanted to share Dawn’s, Holly’s and Missy’s day with you, to provide an insight into how each product is handmade to order, and due to the number of options & choices available, will truly be unique to your best friend!!!
