Only the best – why Harris Tweed
The loom is classed as a handloom as it has foot pedals (treadles) to operate it. Each loom is unique to operate, allowing the weaver to develop their own style. The looms were assembled and checked in West Yorkshire then disassembled, packed and shipped to Scotland. There, the task of assembly was left to the weavers using a simple numbering system to rebuild the loom. The better the loom was assembled the smoother and easier the loom was to operate. To this day, the Hattersley Domestic Loom is used to weave Harris Tweed throughout Scotland. Nowadays, Harris Tweed is woven by either self-employed weavers who work for one of the three existing Harris Tweed mills or as 'freelance weavers' who make their cloth and negotiate sales and private commissions. This ethos to work embraces the values and traditions of the bygone era. We at Hattie & George have selected this stunning cloth for its style, comfort and durability - shouldn’t your best friend have the very best? The breathability, comfort and aesthetic of Harris Tweed makes it the ideal choice for any discerning dog. Gone are the days when tweeds were all brown and creams; although the traditional weaves are still a firm favourite and look amazing on many dogs. The array of colours and patterns available today range from pinks, yellows, teals, blues. Herringbones, checks, plains…a colour for every day and more. With this in mind, we thought why not offer our customers a completely customisable service. This service is, as far as we are aware, the only range of Harris Tweed dog collars and leads that allows dogs and their owners to select the fabric, then the leather, and finally the buckle or clasp. To make a colour combination blend, that suits the look and personality of each four-legged friend. There are no rules – go for a complementary leather, or stand out with a neon or metallic, add a rose gold, brass or nickel buckle for added effect In addition to Harris Tweed being popular for our pooches, other brands have used this beautiful cloth in their clothing ranges. Brands such as Nordstrom, J.Crew, Hugo Boss and Paul Smith to name but a few.
